1. Single medium (water, oil, air) quenching
Single medium (water, oil, air) quenching: The workpiece heated to the quenching temperature is quenched with a quenching medium to completely cool it. This is the simplest method of quenching and is often used for carbon steel and alloy steel workpieces with simple shapes. The quenching medium is selected according to the heat transfer coefficient of the part, hardenability, size, shape, and the like.
 
Second, double medium quenching
Double-medium quenching: The workpiece heated to the quenching temperature is first cooled in a quenching medium with strong cooling capacity to a point close to Ms, and then transferred to a slow-cooling quenching medium to be cooled to room temperature to reach different quenching cooling temperature ranges, and The ideal quenching cooling rate. It is used in large workpieces made of complex shapes or high carbon steel and alloy steel. Carbon steel tool steel also uses this method. Commonly used cooling media are water-oil, water-nitrate, water-air, oil-air. Generally, water is used as a quenching medium for quenching, oil or air is used as a slow quenching medium, and air is less used.
 
Third, martensite grade quenching
Martensite grade quenching: austenitizing the steel, followed by immersion in a liquid medium (salt bath or alkali bath) at a slightly higher temperature or slightly above the upper Martens point of the steel, for a suitable period of time, to be inside and outside the steel After the layers reach the medium temperature, the air cooling is taken out, and the supercooled austenite is slowly transformed into a quenching process of martensite. It is generally used for small workpieces with complex shapes and strict deformation requirements. High-speed steel and high-alloy steel molds are also commonly used for quenching.
 
4. Martensitic graded quenching method below the Ms point
Martensite fractional quenching method below the Ms point: When the bath temperature is lower than the Ms of the workpiece steel and higher than Mf, the workpiece is cooled faster in the bath, and the same result as the fractional quenching can be obtained even when the size is large. Commonly used for large, low-hardenability steel workpieces.
 
5. Bainite austempering method
Bainite austempering method: quenching the workpiece into the bath under the bainite temperature of the steel at moderate temperature, causing the lower bainite transformation, generally in the bath for 30 to 60 minutes. Pre-cooling austempering method: also known as warming austempering, the parts are first cooled in a bath with a lower temperature (greater than Ms), and then transferred to a bath with a higher temperature to make the austenite isothermally transformed. It is suitable for steel parts with poor hardenability or workpieces with large size and must be austempered.
 
Eight, delayed cooling quenching method
Delayed cooling quenching method: The parts are pre-cooled in air, hot water and salt bath to a temperature slightly higher than Ar3 or Ar1, and then quenched in a single medium. It is often used for parts with complex shapes and small thicknesses and small deformation requirements.
 
Nine, quenching self-tempering method
